Singapore is a city-state and island nation composed of 63 islands. It ranks among the most densely populated areas in Asia. The name “Singapore” is an anglicized form of “Singapura,” which means “Land of the Lions.”

Singapore’s modern history began in 1819 when Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles established a trading post for the East India Company. After declaring independence from Britain in 1963 and joining the Malay Federation, Singapore separated from the Federation in 1965. Since then, it has transformed from an underdeveloped country into a leading financial and technological hub, showcasing an impressive story of progress.
